Chapter 7 Trustee – the Chapter 7 trustee is the individual appointed by the office of the United States Trustee to oversee and manage potential assets in the bankruptcy case. In a case where the debtor has assets that are not exempt, the trustee will liquidate or sell those assets and distribute the funds to the creditors according to the law. The trustee may also attempt to recover preferences or fraudulent transfers in order to pay creditors. If there is fraud, perjury, or another problem in the case, the trustee may move to dismiss the debtor’s case or request that the Court deny the debtor’s discharge.
